He is also a prominent educator. Waleczek has made several unusual recordings of Liszt's music. In 2024, he released an album of Liszt's Weihnachtsbaum, a suite of Christmas pieces, on the Naxos label.Waleczek was born in Pyskowice, near Katowice in southern Poland's Silesia region, on March 9, 1980. He graduated from the Wojciech Kilar State Music School Complex in Katowice and then went on to the city's Academy of Music, studying in the piano class of Zbigniew Raubo. He graduated with distinction in 2003. Waleczek then undertook doctoral studies at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz, earning a doctorate in 2014 and a "habilitated" doctoral degree in 2017; the latter degree qualified him to teach in the Polish university system. He did just that, joining the faculty of the Institute of Musical Arts of the University of Silesia in Katowice, and achieving the rank of professor in 2022. By that time, his recording career was already well underway; he joined violinist Voytek Proniewicz for a recording of Liszt's Duo Sonata on Polish Themes on the Naxos label in 2014.Waleczek has performed with virtually every major Polish orchestra as well ensembles abroad, including the Symphony Orchestra of the National Theater of Brazil, the Qatar Philharmonic, and the State Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan. His studies and teaching responsibilities have not stopped him from giving recitals in a notably large variety of countries, including many outside Europe; he has appeared in the U.S., in Central Asia, in many Middle Eastern countries, such as Iran and Iraq, and around South America, including in such places as Guyana and Suriname that are rarely visited by touring musicians. Waleczek has continued to record for Naxos and Capriccio, devoting all his albums to Liszt except for 2022's Schubert: Rarities and Short Piano Works. In 2024, he released a recording of Liszt's rarely heard Christmas suite Weinachtsbaum.Об альбоме (сборнике)When he composed his Harmonies poétiques et religieuses in 1847, Franz Liszt derived his ideas from the poetry of Alphonse de Lamartine, one of the earliest French Romantic poets, and the inspiration for another Liszt composition, Les Préludes. For this set of piano pieces, Liszt borrowed titles from four of Lamartine's poems -- Invocation, Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude, Pensée des morts, and Pater noster d'après la Psalmodie de Église -- and quoted lines at the beginning of each number to establish its expressive context. Because these are evocative mood pieces, the poetic connections are perhaps less significant to modern listeners, since Liszt's music has remained popular, while Lamartine has slipped into obscurity, and Harmonies poétiques et religieuses is increasingly recorded as one of Liszt's more accessible keyboard works. Wojciech Waleczek recorded the cycle in September 2018 at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, and the performance is controlled and subtle, placing a greater emphasis on the music's introspective character rather than on its more virtuosic aspects. That is not to say that Waleczek has underplayed Liszt's pyrotechnics because there is plenty here to dazzle. Rather, the cumulative effect of Waleczek's interpretation is of a transcendent nature, which is often lost in Liszt's solo piano music.
